What is bicycle insurance?

Bicycle insurance protects you from the various risks associated with cycling. As a cyclist, you’ll be well aware of the sport’s countless benefits for your physical and mental health, but you’ll also know that your passion is not without its fair share of risk.

Whether you consider yourself a casual rider, commuting to work on your bike every day, or a more serious, experienced cyclist who competes in races, competitions, and other events, the risks are often the same.

Accidents, injury, and theft of or damage to your bike and equipment can happen at any time and leave you off the road for a while. However, specialist bicycle insurance is designed to protect you against these risks.

Why should I consider bicycle insurance?

Regardless of how often you cycle or even the value of your bike, there are multiple reasons why you may want to consider insurance.

Let’s say you’re involved in a collision on the road, you sustain a nasty injury, and your bike is badly damaged—or your bike gets stolen from your home. Without appropriate cycling insurance, these events could leave you off the road for a while and substantially out of pocket.

Although you might assume that your standard home contents insurance will cover your bike and its accessories, this may not always be the case. In fact, many home insurers will require you to pay an additional premium to cover your bike, and even then—there’s no guarantee you’ll be covered to ride it outside of your home.

That’s why specialist bike insurance, designed with your needs in mind, could be a better option.

What does bicycle insurance cover?
